OG Kush Product Description

Quite possibly one of the most famous cannabis strains of all time, the indica/ sativa hybrid OG Kush is a strain that is ubiquitous with the West Coast. It has no doubt been the main influence of many of the cannabis strains that have come from that region. Despite this, the exact genetic origin of OG Kush is unknown, but it is believed to be the result of Chemdawg and the also very well known Hindu Kush.

OG Kush Strain Details and Aesthetic Qualities

There is some dispute over the origin of the name. Some argue that the initials OG stand for original gangster, which makes sense because OG Kush was very much a part of the nineties West Coast hip hop culture. Others argue that the initials actually stand for “ocean grown”, meaning that the strain was grown by the ocean, i.e., in California. In a way, both answers are technically correct.

OG Kush is a hybrid, a half sativa, and half indica. The THC content is typically between 20-25% THC, making it one of the more potent strains around. CBD content is less than one percent, usually between 0-0.3%.

OG Kush takes a relatively short time to flower. Plants typically take less than two months to fully mature. Plant yield is about average, and plants thrive when they are allowed to grow freely outdoors in dry climates. OG Kush is one of the more difficult strains to grow properly; some growers consider it to be a “risky investment.” However, OG Kush’s popularity is such that when grown properly, the investment pays off.

Aesthetically, OG Kush has thicker and more dense buds, giving it more of an indica-like appearance, though the strain is considered a hybrid. Buds are usually a yellow green color, though they can sometimes come out purple, depending on the climate that they are grown in. Buds are usually covered in a thick layer of trichomes (crystals), making buds sticky to the touch.

OG Kush Flavor/ Aroma

OG Kush has a piney-earthy aroma, and though the buds give off a strong smell, it’s not as pungent as other strains, such as Sour Diesel. If you or someone you live with are sensitive to strong odors, then you will want to store your cannabis in a good airtight container.

OG Kush has a strong earthy taste, similar to the aroma that it gives off. There is also more than a hint of citrus, which blends really well with the earthy, woodsy taste. One of the reasons for OG Kush’s popularity is because of the unique taste of the strain.

OG Kush Physiological Effects

OG Kush’s effects are more cerebral than physical. Those who consume it will feel very relaxed. I would compare it to the feeling one gets after receiving a full body massage. Some people feel sleepy after smoking OG Kush, so they use it to fight insomnia, others report just feeling very calm, but not sleepy. It honestly depends on the person. It is a good idea to avoid driving or operating heavy or dangerous machinery after consuming OG Kush. I would also avoid smoking it directly before going to work, or any kind of social engagement where you have to interact with a lot of new people, as this strain can make it difficult to interact with people.

OG Kush Psychological Effects

OG Kush has many more psychological effects than physiological. This strain is highly euphoric, which is another reason why it’s so popular. OG Kush leaves the user with a happy and mellow feeling, which makes for a very relaxing evening. Though the effects of OG Kush are more cerebral than physical, this is not the type of strain that traps you in your own head. I’ve never felt paranoid while smoking it.  You will still be able to function. It’s a great one to have around when you’re having a small group of close friends over. I’ve found OG Kush to be great for mentally stimulating one on one conversations.

OG Kush This Strain Is Most Often Used To Treat…

OG Kush is most often used to treat anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorders. The happy high makes it a great stress reliever, and both the physical and mental effects make it an excellent strain for treating the symptoms that often come with anxiety. This strain is also believed to be great for treating migraine headaches. It also can work well as a pain reliever, but if you are going to use it for that, I would say that it would work better as a topical, tincture, or edible. The strain is somewhat successful for treating insomnia, but it does not work this way for everyone. This strain does work well as an appetite stimulant, so it is often used by cancer patients.

There’s a reason why OG Kush has been consistently popular for almost thirty years. It’s a unique little bud that tastes delicious and works effectively, whether you’re settling down with a book for the evening, or having a good time with friends.
